New Artificial Leaf (NAL)

Green Independence's New Artificial Leaf (NAL) combines innovations in energy, water and electrochemistry.

A new era of clean energy

Our all-in-one, modular system not only converts solar energy into electricity—it also purifies wastewater and generates green hydrogen, all within a single device.

One hectare of NAL

Soleidon is the green energy production and water purification module.

It uses solar panel dissipated heat to purify water, making it adaptable to several applications.

Anion Exchange Membrane electrochemical cell (ECM)

It produces green hydrogen using an anion exchange membrane (AEM) electrode assembly and low-noble-metal catalysts, optimizing costs.

The two modules can be used independently of each other or integrated into the NAL.

Key features of NAL

Decentralized approach

Enables the production and storage of green energy without relying on traditional power grids.

Integrated Functions

Water purification and green hydrogen production are combined in a single technological solution.

Cost-efficient green hydrogen production

Thanks to the ECM, we can lower production costs to as little as €1/kg.

Modular Flexibility

The system is adaptable to a variety of needs—from industrial-scale operations to remote, off-grid communities.

Built-in Safety

The system operates at low pressures, low voltage, and low temperature—under standard safety conditions—making it as safe to use as a household appliance.

Accessibility

The system is easily deployable across industrial facilities and heavy transport infrastructure such as ports, airports, railway, or refueling stations.

Techno-Economic Goals of NAL Technology

NAL technology aims to achieve important techno-economic objectives to revolutionize the green hydrogen production sector.

Our main objectives are:

Goal

Reduce the cost of green hydrogen from the current market benchmark of €8/kg to as low as €1/kg.

Strategy

Exploiting gains from secondary products (such as pure water), waste reduction, and economy of scale.

Reduction of the Levelized Cost of Hydrogen (LCoH)
Goal

Bring the cost of purified water to zero, or even create a net economic benefit.

Strategy

Co-generate solar power during water purification, transforming a traditional cost into a source of value.

Zeroing the Levelized Cost of Water (LCW)
Goal

Cut the cost of electricity to below €0.1/kWh.

Strategy

Use the benefits of water purification to reduce energy costs, ensuring a sustainable and cost-effective approach.
