Green Independence aims to give everyone the ability to produce clean water and green hydrogen on-site and at low cost, making these resources accessible, affordable, and sustainable for all.
We address the challenges of drought and water scarcity by recycling wastewater and desalinating seawater with zero environmental impact and in an energy-positive way.
Our goal is to ensure cheaper, more flexible green hydrogen production—requiring no constant monitoring or maintenance— capable of integration beyond the industrial sector.
Our energy revolution begins with the New Artificial Leaf (NAL)—a technology that harnesses waste solar energy to purify wastewater while simultaneously producing electricity or green hydrogen, all independently from the power grid.
The NAL is a multifunctional solar panel that uses three times (X3) more solar energy than a traditional photovoltaic panel and operates entirely off-grid, with no need for external buffer systems.
Thanks to its wide-ranging applications, NAL technology will enable Green Independence to enter multiple market segments:
A sustainable revolution for critical sectors such as energy, industry, and heavy transport.
We envision a sustainable future where every drop of water and every ray of sunshine counts. By using solar energy and recycling wastewater to generate green hydrogen, we promote a circular economy where nothing goes to waste.
We shorten the supply chain by producing hydrogen where it’s needed. With production costs reduced to as low as 1€/kg and on-site generation, green hydrogen becomes an affordable and sustainable option for all.
The NAL’s dual functionality enables both water purification/desalination and green hydrogen production. This provides a solution to the water crisis, ensures a reliable energy supply, and helps lower the carbon footprint.
The ability to purify water and generate energy even in remote, off-grid areas—and to convert energy-unproductive infrastructures into productive green energy assets—supports a decentralized energy model, promotes energy independence, and optimizes land use.
We offer a system that produces decentralized green hydrogen at €1/kg, while reducing the cost of technical water supply and disposal.
We move away from intensive, centralized energy production toward decentralized, distributed, and independent systems. This shift reduces the need for green hydrogen transport and compression and enables local exchange through existing gas infrastructure.
The NAL offers clear competitive advantages: the use of panel waste heat to purify water, the use of low-cost materials, and, in general, an innovative circular approach that supports environmental sustainability and reduces the customer’s carbon footprint.
The combined effect of NAL’s technological features not only incorporates the benefits of existing technologies, but goes beyond them—offering a more efficient, sustainable, and user-friendly solution for both hydrogen production and water purification.
This operational simplicity makes the processes as user-friendly as a household appliance, enabling adoption in settings previously out of reach for industrial systems.
The New Artificial Leaf is a strategic asset for the energy transition, offering a means to accelerate the adoption of green hydrogen without decommissioning existing infrastructure or triggering disruptive changes that might result in closures, job losses or stranded investments.
Additionally, the NAL contributes to energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction.
Founded in 2020, Green Independence is a rapidly growing startup with high-profile partners in its operating sectors.
Our achievements to date include a working prototype and international recognition for our impact in the renewable energy field.
We serve the B2B market as an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM)—designing and supplying the technology asset. Additional revenue streams include system operation and maintenance, benefit-sharing agreements with customers, and licensing opportunities in hard-to-reach markets due to geographic or regulatory barriers.
In the future, we will also serve the B2C market, allowing private homes and buildings to adopt our technology to form energy communities—even in B2G (business-to-government) configurations.
Discover the organizations and companies who have seen in our project not only a business opportunity but also a step towards a sustainable future.
As we prepare to scale, we’re seeking partners and investors who share our vision for a sustainable future—aiming to accelerate the large-scale commercialization of the NAL.
